Citrus Campus Open House

The band was playingAlthough CFCC Citrus strives to serve its community every day, on one special day each year, the college opens its doors to community members of all ages and interests.

Hosting displays and activities that span interests ranging from classic cars to healthcare to wildlife preservation to fine arts, CFCC Citrus Open House is intended to be an exciting day of activities for everyone in Citrus County.

child get a hugIn 2005, CFCC's Open House hosted more than 60 nonprofit and governmental agencies, all offering materials and information to the public as well as engaging in numerous activities and promotions.

The 2005 Open House was sponsored by the Citrus County Chronicle and the Plantation Inn.

Helicopter touches downAgencies involved included Citrus Memorial and Seven Rivers hospitals, Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park, Citrus County Chronicle, and the Citrus County Sherriff's Department, and numerous local government offices.

The Citrus Cruisers displayed restored classic cars for visitors' enjoyment. Children and adults alike were able to learn about the duties of both law enforcement and health care by exploring the 4 helicopters displayed and speaking with their crews. In the afternoon, CFCC's students performed a drama in the open courtyard of the campus.

getting involvedLive music was performed throughout the afternoon and Papa John's Pizza, Domino's Pizza, and Pizza Hut all donated free food to the festivities. A representative from Edy's Ice Cream was also on hand to cool everyone down with free ice cream.

Children attending the open house were able to participate in a variety of hand crafts as well as a scavenger hunt. They were also able to see several presentations by staff from Homosassa Wildlife Park, take hay rides, and attend story time.

Next year, in 2006, CFCC plans to partner with the annual celebration hosted by Boy Scouts of America to present an even larger celebration.
